~~~ WELCOME TO THE ADRP MESSAGE BOARD ~~~ Thank you for your interest in our activity, The Afghanistan Dental Relief Project.
Our dedication is to provide humanitarian aid and support to the people of Afghanistan.
We feel the need to heal the Middle East by helping rebuild the technical infrastructure, and we feel that, as the richest and most powerful nation, it is our duty.
The Afghan people are still suffering, but our aid goes to the military instead. Many see the inequity, and want somehow to help, to do good.
We live in one world, where freedom means we must (and can) stand up for what we believe.
The Afghan people were used by America to defeat the Soviet Union; after the Soviets left, we abandoned them, and they still suffer.
Some of the facts are that Afghanistan has the highest childbirth mortality rate in the world, the average lifespan is 42 years,
and over 35% of the population are malnourished. Kabul’s four million residents have no public electricity or water, resulting in chronic epidemics of cholera,
typhoid fever, and hepatitis A. Millions died there during thirty years of war.
Eighty percent of the children feel that life is not worth living. There are 3,000,000 orphans, and one dentist for every 200,000 people.
Most dentists in America are responsible for only 1,000 people. Many people in Afghanistan have multiple abscessed teeth and are dying because they cannot
access dental care. We want to help people with their dental problems and train the older orphans and widows in dental technology.
Our program has the approval of the Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan.
We have assembled 120,000 pounds of dental equipment and supplies,
including a pre-fabricated three-operatory dental clinic built in a forty-foot shipping container that is self-contained, with its own water and electric supply.
We have twelve other operatories of dental equipment, including x-ray machines, thousands of pounds of dental supplies of all types,
as well as blankets and shoes, packed and ready to ship.
We have a 10,000-square-foot clinic building and school designed and funded, ready to build when we can find land for it.
But we still have some gaps to fill, before this dream can become reality.
We need to ship it all there, which will cost about $30,000, and we need to find some land. We are working very hard on this now.
Because you are interested in what we are doing, we would like to know what you think.
Please use the suggestion board sign in and give us your comments.
Thank you for your interest in The Afghanistan Dental Relief Project.
Our Need List:
* $30,000 to ship 120,000 pounds of dental cargo to Afghanistan;
* Help with establishing our organization as an Afghan NGO, or participation with another existing NGO;
* Construction volunteers who can pay airfare and work for two weeks in Kabul;
* Dental workers who would like to work as volunteers in the clinic for two weeks or more, starting in late Spring, in Kabul, who can pay their own expenses;
* Interested people who would like to do fund-raising in their communities;
* Dental workers who could write companies for supply and equipment donations, as well as the opportunity to be a corporate sponsor;
* People who would like to work within the organization, communicating and coordinating activities.
Hi Jim,
Spoke on the phone last week.
I'm the fixed Lab Tech.
Very interested in your mission.
Got an OK from my wife to go.
Sept. with Dr. Rahimi should work for me.
Would love to go in April but don't think I can afford two trips this year.( The Sept. trip is costing me a trip to Jamaica for my wife and myself.)
For the lab set-up, a rectangle is the most efficient.
Try to keep all the dust and dirt in the front 2/3
Sterilation, log-in, model &die, die trim, wax-up, sprue & investing, casting & devesting, metal finnishing and polising as isolated from porcelain as possiable. The A/C needs to go mainly to the front 2/3 of your container. Porc. Tech's don't need cool, but waxers do. The A/C will also help filter some of the airborne dust.
The use of N/P metal concernes me. Will you have enough vacumn and masks for your Tech's?
Is the air compressor oil or oiless? If it's oil and humidity is a concern, let me know and I know a way around this without a costley dryer.
I know you do your own lab work and don't mean to slight you, however I use to be the general mngr. for a 45 person lab. I don't know what your target is for this project, such as using the containers as modulers and grow from a centeral core, or train tech's and transport lab tech and modular to a satilite location.
I'll give you my cell # if you want to talk to me. (916)627-0050
I look forward to speaking with you again.
Brian
i am quite impressed with your vision for your
unique project. having just e-mailed you, i'm not sure if you got my e-mail address? it is ellentrumpler@hotmail.com.
i could provide some assistance in the area of networking that might lead to greater promotion of your project. many projects have been started before albeit lacking the right networking and connections to achieve major fundraising goals. your project is so urgent and so close to reaching its goals, it merits serious attention as an independent international relief project from individual donors as well as relief organizations working towards the same end. Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I am deeply impressed with your efforts to provide such desperately needed help in Afghanistan. It is heartening to know that there are people out there like yourself who are willing to put real effort to help others. Please keep up the good work and know that although the problem is immense and you can't help them all, your work has vastly improved the lives of those you could help.
